'Patrick Vieira, this is the USMNT calling': Top US soccer analyst Taylor Twellman suggests USA chiefs should hire recently-sacked Crystal Palace boss Patrick Vieira as their next coach Taylor Twellman thinks Vieira should stay by his phone waiting for a call Fans were split on how Vieira's hiring would go over, or if he'd be successful Click here for all your latest international Sports news from DailyMail.com By Jake Fenner For Dailymail.Com Published: 15:30 EDT, 17 March 2023 | Updated: 15:31 EDT, 17 March 2023 e-mail 2 View comments Apple TV analyst Taylor Twellman believes that Patrick Vieira could be expecting a call from the United States very soon. Within hours of the announcement of Vieira's sacking at Crystal Palace , Twellman light-heartedly joked that the Frenchman should stand by his phone for a call from the US Soccer Federation. In a tweet, the former USMNT international posted a hand-waving emoji next to the words '@OfficialVieira this is the @USMNT calling.

...' That led to immediate discussion underneath the tweet - with fans split evenly saying the hire would be great or that it wouldn't work. It's important to note that Vieira does have experience coaching within the United States and is familiar with Major League Soccer.

Taylor Twellman suggested that recently fired Patrick Vieira could be getting a call from the US Twellman took to Twitter saying, 'this is the @USMNT calling' as there's no clear front-runner “👋🏼 @OfficialVieira this is the @USMNT calling….” #USMNT pic.twitter.com/OM2Beb1cMy — Taylor Twellman (@TaylorTwellman) March 17, 2023 He was the second coach in the history of New York City FC, replacing Jason Kreis in the 2016 season. There, he took the team to its first two MLS Cup playoff appearances - where they lost both times to Toronto FC in 2016 and the Columbus Crew in 2017.

Midway through the 2018 season, he departed the club to become the manager at Nice in Ligue 1. At a time where the US Soccer Federation hasn't clearly stated what their next steps are at the managerial position, a name like Vieira's can get thrown around for this job - even with no prior links. With the USSF only recently releasing its findings from the Gregg Berhalter investigation - and saying he remains a candidate - there's a lack of direction or clarity on what they plan to do. Fans have spent the past few months - if not the past year - speculating as to who could be taking over Berhalter's job. Many on Twitter offered their thoughts on a potential Vieira signing and who they might rather have.

Fans were split in Twellman's comments - taking both sides in Vieira's potential hire NBA G-League play-by-play man Julio Rausseo commented , 'Are you sure pundits won't get upset if Vieira became the US coach and excluded MLS players from the national team?' Another fan suggested Juan Carlos Osorio instead of Vieira, saying, 'Tons of experience. And already coached in a WC with Mexico.' Other fans, like this one , simply stated, 'He is not a good fit for the USMNT'. On the other side of the argument, some fans believe that someone with Vieira's experience, 'would be a solid choice' - with others saying 'Yes absolutely!!' Another fan in support of Vieira said , 'This is the sort of manager everyone seems to be clamoring about..

.no? Proven winner as a player at highest levels, managerial experience in multiple leagues (Prem), US experience, cut his chops in CFG. He's younger than the old heads...

I think this could be a great fit.'
