NBA suspends Ja Morant eight games for gun video

The NBA has suspended Ja Morant eight games for his actions in a video, the league announced Wednesday afternoon. The league suspended the Memphis Grizzlies star guard after an investigation following a video on social media in which Morant appeared to be brandishing a gun at a Denver area nightclub on March 4. The NBA investigation determined that Morant was “holding a firearm in an intoxicated state,” but added it did not conclude the gun belonged to Morant or he brought the gun into the nightclub. NBA commissioner Adam Silver criticized Morant, calling his actions “irresponsible, reckless, and potentially very dangerous” and “..

.has serious consequences given his enormous following and influence, particularly among young fans who look up to him.” Silver announced the suspension shortly after he met with Morant on Wednesday. Morant met with SIlver after he left a counseling facility in Florida. The suspension covers the five games Morant has already missed and the Grizzlies’ game at the Miami Heat tonight.

He will also miss the Grizzlies’ games at San Antonio on Friday and a home game against Golden State on Saturday. Morant will be eligible to play when the Grizzlies take on the Dallas Mavericks on Monday. However, Morant reportedly during his time at the counseling center, so he’s not expected to play against Mavericks as he continues his ramp up. He’s expected to return to the court soon after.
